Project Details

Doug Kofsky is an extremely talented photographer with a passion for panoramic mountain photography. He approached us to build a custom portfolio site with an e-commerce component after becoming frustrated with the offerings of out of the box, cookie cutter templates. His requirements were simple, but specific: Presenting panoramic photos in a way that allows the user to get a true sense of the imagery’s scale, and allowing visitors the opportunity to purchase limited edition prints. This was a challenge with conventional gallery sites, where the galleries consisted of square, uniform thumbnails, which detracted from the panoramic format. Doug also requested a shopping cart, but one that fit elegantly into the clean look of the site, and that wasn’t obtrusive.

The solution was to create an image grid that respected the format, and scaled seamlessly from mobile to the largest of desktops. We built an e-commerce platform on top of WooCommerce as a way of inviting print purchasing in a subdued way. We stripped down the e-commerce functions to it’s bare necessities, and hid the shopping cart UI until it was needed. The result is a clean gallery site that focuses on the photography, with a seamless purchasing experience built right in.
